Epic Fail

So the sale on our house fell through. Not even going to pretend like I am okay, because I am not! I needed this in the worst possible way. I needed it so my family and I could actually have all of our belongings under one roof. Not part here at this apartment, part at my sister's from when we lived there, part still at our house and the rest in a storage unit!
I want to be able to settle in and establish a home for my kids and my husband. I want to be able to entertain in our home. I want a social life again.
Now we are back to square one. Ugh!

Mommy Moment

Do you ever have a moment when something happens and you look outside yourself and realize "damn, I really am a mom/dad." I had one of those moments the other night. Let me set the scene-
One night last week I was trying to get the kids to bed when O decided he was not tired and did not feel that he needed to sleep. So of course I am trying to coax him into sleep while simultanously getting Tay to sleep which was not working.
I took O to the bathroom to get him to sleep. (he loves the sound of running water- so I kick on the fan and turn on the faucet- usually works like a charm.) So as I'm working on O Tay decided that she did not need to be in her bed any longer so she comes to join the party in the bathroom. As we are trying to remain quiet so O would go to sleep Tay starts to entertain herself by trying on my jewelry.
She puts on every piece that I had on my vanity. Long necklaces, short necklaces, rings, and even my watch. As I am watching her do this it hits me that I use to do the exact same thing with my mom's jewelry!
At that moment I had an outer body experience and saw myself as my daughter sees me. I got a glimpse of just how much I mean to her and how much she looks up to me and it scared me. It scared me because in that moment I realized just how much she depends on me and how I hold the keys to her happiness. Let's just hope I don't mess her up to bad!

Good day

Today was a good day. When I have a day like today I feel that I might just make it as a stay at home mom. We (Tay, O, and me) went to one of my good friends today for a play date. They have a son who will be 3 in July, making him about a year and a half younger than Tay. They get along very well. They have so much fun together. They watched t.v., they played outside in the sprinkler, they had snack time, and jumped on the bed. What else do you need to have a fun day?! We then came home, I cooked red beans and rice while Tay watched Mary Poppins and O played on the floor. We ate, the kids got baths and we are all asleep on the couch together!
I am so happy when my day goes well with minimal melt downs, mine or the kids! The only stressed out part of the day occured when we are in the car. O HATES the car and screams the entire time he's in his car seat! It is exhausting. We've tried everything we can think of to distract him in the car and absolutely nothing works. I have been held captive in my apartment for too long, so he's just gonna have to get over it. Of course long trips are out of the question but short trips to the store and such are just gonna have to take place!

Debbie Downer

Had a rough night last night. This SAHM thing is not for the weak! I'm not sure if it's because I have a Four year old and a three month old (who HATES the car, btw) but I have no idea how this is done. I very often find myself wondering, what exactly I think I am doing, and how much am I actually screwing up my kids because I have no idea what I am doing. O takes all of my attention, therefore Tay spends WAY too much time watching t.v. This causes MAJOR mommy guilt. I understand and accept that mommy guilt is part of the job I just had no idea it would be this bad! I literally sobbed last night because I feel so inadequate to do this job. I know that it will get better so I cling to that hope every day. Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer today, but this is my life right now!

Great weekend

This past weekend we dropped the kids off at the in-laws and had an AH-MAZING adults only weekend!

Got to see first hand how high the Mighty Mississippi is getting. We strolled around the quarter, ate boiled crawfish, rode the streetcar uptown to meet with my bro-in-law to have sushi, got a massage on Magazine street, ran into a couple of celebrities (Bryan Batt-Mad Men and Josh Lucas-Sweet Home Alabama), convinced my best friend Re and her hubby LT to come party with us on Bourbon, found a great place to eat some GOOD food, drank a lot, danced some, and had a wonderful relaxing weekend!! Cannot wait to do it again, even if I am still feeling it 2days later!

I am trying this from my new iPhone because we have been without our home computer for several months. This being the reason that I have not updated anyone on anything that has been going on.

On February 23, 2011 we welcomed our second child. Owen Landon was born at 2:23pm weighing 5lbs, 14.5oz, 19inches!! Pictures to follow. I cannot wait for y'all to meet him!
